Successful 2017 Celebrate the Season
The Anacortes Schools Foundation helped kick off the holiday season with a series of events held December 2nd and 3rd at the Port Event Center. A magical holiday wonderland welcomed thousands during the weekend’s “Celebrate the Season” festivities which included free admission, photos with Santa, the Grinch, dancers, jugglers, singers, sweets, crafts, unique gifts, gingerbread contests and more.
A highlight of the weekend was Saturday night’s 5th annual “Dream It” dinner auction which brought in over $75,000 to benefit Anacortes schools. Under thousands of twinkling lights, surrounded by Christmas trees and festive décor, this lively evening featured dinner catered by Gere-a-deli, a live auction and music by the Patrick McHenry Band.
Each year, the “Dream It” dinner auction features a “Raise the Paddle” that supports a specific need in our schools. This year, donors supported the purchase of state-of-the-art Texas Instrument NSpire calculators for math and science use at Anacortes High School. AHS Senior Guilia spoke about the need for this technology and thanked the crowd saying “I hope one day to become a doctor and, tonight, you are helping me chase my dreams.” The Andeavor Foundation was first to step up with a gift of $20,000, and a challenge to guests to match that contribution. Proceeds from the evening will cover the calculator purchase, plus a number of STEM programs, Early Learning and other enrichment Kindergarten to 12th Grade.
ASF wishes to thank the community, dinner guests, sponsors and all the volunteers, including event Co-Chairs Vicki Stowe and Kim Post, and the Fidalgo Island Rotary Club, who brought Santa’s Village and Whoville to life.
